I/O IP Modules - Modbus TCP/IP - Work with the protocol
The following article describes how to prepare multiprotocol I/O modules of MINI-IP, MIX-IP, and MAX-IP series to work with the Modbus TCP/IP protocol.
NOTE: The RS485 port in MINI/MIX/MAX-IP modules works only in the master mode! It can only be used as a gateway from "ModbusTCP/IP" to "Modbus over RS485".
1. Preparation for work with the module
In the first step, you need to prepare a PC with iSMA Configurator software installed (you can download it for free from https://support.ismacontrolli.com/iSMA-Configurator/), a mini USB cable and a small, flat screwdriver.
2. Configuration of rotary and DIP switch
In the first step, correctly configure the DIP switch and rotary switch located under the top cover of the device. The rotary switch is used to set the Modbus address which must be unique for each device on the network. The address is set according to the formula:
Address = S2x10 + S1.

To start the Modbus RTU protocol in the module, set the pins 4 and 5 of the "dip switch" to the OFF position, according to the table below:

3. Device configuration using iSMA Configurator
Before proceeding to this point, it is recommended to read the iSMA Configurator manual first iSMA Configurator - połączenie z modułem, odczyt i zapis ustawień.
In the first step, connect to the device with iSMA Configurator and go to the "IP Configuration" tab. In this tab, set the value of the parameters: “Ip Address”, “Mask” and “Gateway” so that they can communicate with other Modbus devices. Using this tab, you can also verify the correctness of the Modbus address setting using the “Modbus address” parameter. Also, set the “Modbus TCP Port” the same as in the master controller.
