MAC36 - M-Bus - Managing M-Bus communication with multiple master devices
Introduction
In M-Bus communication, connecting multiple master devices like MG-IP and MAC36PRO-M on a single bus can lead to hardware damage. This guideline explains the risks and provides a clear directive for managing M-Bus communication safely.
Good Practice
To ensure the integrity and proper functioning of your M-Bus network, follow these steps:
Avoid Connecting Multiple Masters: M-Bus transmits signals using current, and each master device acts as a current power source. Connecting two different current power sources on a single bus can cause one or both devices to fail.
Single Master Configuration: Always configure your M-Bus network with a single master device. This practice prevents potential conflicts and ensures stable communication across the network.
Check for Power Supply Control: Some devices, like the AAC20-D for DALI bus, offer the ability to disable power supply to the bus. However, MG-IP and MAC36PRO-M do not have such features for M-BUS. Verify your device capabilities before attempting any complex configurations.
